[3D SCANNING AND PRINTING]-
Tasks for the week:
This week assignment-
-Test the design rules for your printer(s) (group project)
-Design and 3D print an object (small, few cm) that could not be made subtractive
-3D scan an object (and optionally print it).
3D Printer-
I am fast time using 3D printer and I also learned 3D design software, fracktroy software and all the 3D printer details
Result using different infill setting
You can see here the biggest hole has 5mm diameter and I checked all printed holes diameter with the help of vernier caliper. The ultra, high, normal and fast print diameters are 4.52mm, 4.49mm, 4.22mm and 4.19mm resp.
Orientation-
As I gain experience in 3D printing technology I have come to see that the orientation of how an object is printed has quite an impact to the strength of the object. In some cases, print orientation can contribute just as much to the strength of a print as the density.
Objects sliced in software and save G-code in the SD card. Apply glue on the julia bed and select the file which you want to print from SD card. Click print. |
You can see the differing patterns on the faces of the parts due to the orientation. |

Scan 3d
This free software is a simple, yet powerful piece software. The user interface is better than reconstruct me and it is easy to learn this software. This is a bit more manual than Skanet but it is good enough to work with.
The way it works is that you have to first keep the object in front of the sensor and click scan. Then the software captures a snapshot of the object and the 3D data. Now you have to rotate the object a certain degree and then click scan again and then a new snapshot will be taken. The software then attempts to align these two meshes to create a part of the object.
My friend scanned me
I have Scanned my Friend (student Fabacademy) What We see Below is the White path shows the motion of the Kinect sensor which it has traveled during the scanning.
One drawback of this method id that the top of the head will not be scanned properly, lam experimenting with different angles and orientations to see what works.he main problem with this is t, hat the aligns are not always perfect, and some meshes will not align itself. You can solve this by either deleting the problem mesh and scan again with a bit more overlap or you can edit the mesh and orient it on the same plane and click align again and the software will align it for you.Support Part-Final Part-Limitations of 3D ScanningThe main limitation in 3D scanning is the hardware you are using, if you have a portable high end scanner, you can get detailed resolution scans, but if you don't then it really limits your options in the things you can scan.
