[3D SCANNING AND PRINTING]-

Tasks for the week:

This week assignment-

-Test the design rules for your printer(s) (group project)

-Design and 3D print an object (small, few cm) that could not be made subtractive

-3D scan an object (and optionally print it).

3D Printer-

I am fast time using 3D printer and I also learned 3D design software, fracktroy software and all the 3D printer details

machine details

We have an Accucraft and julia 3d printer at Vigyan Ashram, it uses Repeteier host as a machine software and fracktroy software. Other then this, we use Cura to roatate and orient the position of the object to be printed. For the group assignment all of us designed using different softwares: Sketchup, Solidworks and Fusion 360. All the models were exported as STLs and then the repeater and keyslicer were used. We also tried cura in between. The parts printed as group testing are as follows.

Specification of Zulia+:

Layer resolution: up to 80 um, Build volume: 21 cm × 25 cm × 26 cm, Recommended filament diameter: 1.75 mm, Nozzle diameter: 0.2- 0.8 mm (Replaceable Nozzle), Print technology: Fused filament fabrication (FFF), Stand-alone: SD-card printing, Frame dimension X Y Z: 48 mm × 47 mm × 42 mm, Operation nozzle temperature: 180-260 °C.

Specification-

Bed size- 210*250*260mm
filament size - 1.75mm
Printing material - ABS, PLA, carbonfill(ABS), Copperfill(PLA), Creoflex, Woodfill(PLA),etc.
The printer software supports .stl and .obj files via USB or SD card.
For this we need only one software i.e frcaktory.

Infill-

Infill is a structure that is printed in side an object. To infill a hollow place or gap means to fill it.

responsive

I used fracktroy software

responsive

Result using different infill setting

You can see here the biggest hole has 5mm diameter and I checked all printed holes diameter with the help of vernier caliper. The ultra, high, normal and fast print diameters are 4.52mm, 4.49mm, 4.22mm and 4.19mm resp.

responsive

Orientation-

As I gain experience in 3D printing technology I have come to see that the orientation of how an object is printed has quite an impact to the strength of the object. In some cases, print orientation can contribute just as much to the strength of a print as the density.

The orientation of a structure or object is the direction it faces.

Here we tested a simple L-shape object by changing its orientation of printing and check the supports, strength. The objects were sliced together.

responsive
Objects sliced in software and save G-code in the SD card. Apply glue on the julia bed and select the file which you want to print from SD card. Click print.
responsive
You can see the differing patterns on the faces of the parts due to the orientation.

Overhang-

An overhang is the part of something that sticks out over and above something else.

responsive

I made this to illustrate a point for a project I'm working on about modeling for 3D printers. The rule is that 3D printers can handle gradual overhangs but do not go over 45 degrees or you'll have trouble. So I made some overhangs at 30, 45, and 60 degrees and printed them out.

We have four degree set 25,45,60,80 degree

Scan 3d

This free software is a simple, yet powerful piece software. The user interface is better than reconstruct me and it is easy to learn this software. This is a bit more manual than Skanet but it is good enough to work with.

The way it works is that you have to first keep the object in front of the sensor and click scan. Then the software captures a snapshot of the object and the 3D data. Now you have to rotate the object a certain degree and then click scan again and then a new snapshot will be taken. The software then attempts to align these two meshes to create a part of the object.

First successful scan

responsive

One drawback of this method id that the top of the head will not be scanned properly, lam experimenting with different angles and orientations to see what works.he main problem with this is t, hat the aligns are not always perfect, and some meshes will not align itself. You can solve this by either deleting the problem mesh and scan again with a bit more overlap or you can edit the mesh and orient it on the same plane and click align again and the software will align it for you.

Limitations of 3D Scanning

The main limitation in 3D scanning is the hardware you are using, if you have a portable high end scanner, you can get detailed resolution scans, but if you don't then it really limits your options in the things you can scan.

3D Printing

3D printing is also known as additive manufacturing where successive layers of a material are deposited on top of one another in a computer controlled manner to create a 3D model.

The Fraktal Julia V2.2 features an all-metal extruder head and an easy to use filament loading system. The printing hotbed of the Fraktal Julia V2.2 is coated with a removable glass surface to provide the 3D prints thermal stability.

Compared to the the Fraktal Julia V2.0, The Fractal Julia V2.2 adds an on board LCD interface, a Bluetooth interface and a SD card reader.
